Easy Tips to Win at Texas Hold'em

With Texas Hold'em having become such a huge phenomenon in poker history, it is no wonder that the game finds new entrants every day. The thrill is great but so are the losses, if you don't know how to play the game. Here are some simple tips that can be of help to beginners as well as amateur players.

1. Consolidate your Position - At the very beginning of the game you should know what kind of hand you have - stay if it is a strong hand and fold if it is weak. This helps make your position in the coming hands much stronger.

2. Don't Loosen Your Play - As mentioned in the first point, a loose hand will get you nowhere in this game. It will only end up making you lose a larger amount of money in case an opponent calls you.

3. Use a Flop to your Advantage - Opportunities in poker are rare and a player must make use of them instantly if he wants to sweep the pot. If a flop is made available to you, you should first be able to recognize it and then use it according to the hand you have been dealt.

4. Identify a Tell - Keeping track of all the moves in the game as well as your opponents is a tough task. But if you learn to ‘tell', then you can become a formidable poker player.

5. Concentrate on your Game - In order to spot flops and tells in the game, concentration is key. If a player is able to hone this skill, half the game is already won.

6. Keep Track of the Money you Bet - Money does not grow on trees and everyone has worked hard to earn in. When you lose money due to sheer negligence during play, it can be quite disappointing. That is why it is necessary to set yourself a limit for every session you play. This way, even if you lose the money, you have already prepared yourself for it and stopped before losing anymore.

7. Jot Down Notes of the Game Played - A serious player, however good he/she is, will always take notes of the game in progress. This helps learn valuable lessons later on and use them as future strategies.

8. Online Poker is Different - It is important to understand that online poker is very different from live poker. Not only is the speed of the dealer different - it is much faster online - you also have only a set amount of time to make your move. If you don't request an extension, the dealer automatically folds your cards if you exceed the warning bell.

9. First Try your Hand at Smaller Tournaments - If you are a beginner, then it makes much more sense to play in smaller tournaments and gain confidence. Once you feel you have understood the game and are willing to take more chances, you can switch.

10. Maintain a Schedule Diary - This helps when you are playing in several tournaments and need to be sure of dates, times and opponents.
